Agartala, 25th August 2026 : Workers and pensioners of the Tripura Jute Mill staged a mass sit-in and mass deputation programme in Agartala on Tuesday, raising a number of demands related to provident fund and pension benefits. The protesters assembled in front of the office of the Central Provident Fund Commissioner and submitted a deputation seeking urgent intervention in resolving their long-pending grievances.
The protesters alleged that several workers who had exercised their option for higher pension were now facing uncertainty over the processing of their applications. According to the agitating workers, many of them had submitted their option forms as far back as 2010.
They claimed that the then local PF Commissioner had informed them that no fresh online application would be necessary and that their cases would be processed through the offline system. However, following the transfer of the official, the workers alleged that the instructions changed and they were subsequently asked to follow a different procedure.
The protesters further stated that they had already submitted the required option forms and some had even started receiving pension benefits. They said PF authorities had earlier assured them that the data submitted by thousands of applicants would be digitally processed and that the outcome would eventually be communicated to them.
Speaking during the programme, a representative of the protesters said their struggle was aimed at securing the benefits to which the workers and pensioners were entitled. He also appealed to fellow pensioners and workers not to be misled by what he described as attempts to create confusion over the issue.
The speaker maintained that the movement was not politically motivated and that the protesters would raise their demands irrespective of which political party was in power.
The leadership warned that the agitation would continue in the coming days if the authorities failed to address their demands and resolve the pending PF and pension-related issues.
