Agartala, 5th August 2026: Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu has called upon the youth of the state to actively contribute towards building a TB-free Tripura and a TB-free India. He also urged every Gram Panchayat in the state to work towards achieving the status of a TB-free Panchayat.
The Governor made the appeal while inaugurating an awareness workshop on tuberculosis under the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan at Pragya Bhavan in Agartala on Wednesday. The workshop was jointly organised by the Regional Institute of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology (RIPSAT), the Health and Family Welfare Department, and the National Health Mission (NHM).
Addressing the gathering, Governor Nallu said that the fight against tuberculosis is not merely a medical challenge but also a collective commitment to social solidarity and the well-being of every citizen. He said the campaign aims to enhance the identification of TB patients, ensure early diagnosis, and strengthen healthcare services for workers engaged in high-risk occupations.
The Governor noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set the goal of making India TB-free and affirmed that the Tripura Government remains committed to achieving this objective. He stressed that building a TB-free Tripura is a shared responsibility and urged public representatives, healthcare workers, and citizens to work together towards the mission.
During the programme, the Governor officially launched the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan App. He also distributed nutritious food kits to several TB patients and presented certificates to Nikshay Mitras in recognition of their contribution to the campaign. NEEPCO, NEDFi, and the Hepatitis Foundation of Tripura were also felicitated for their support.
State TB Officer and Joint Director of the Family Welfare and Disease Prevention Department, Dr. Nupur Debbarma, highlighted the objectives and progress of the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. Several individuals who successfully recovered from tuberculosis shared their experiences during the event.
Among those present were Director of the Health and Family Welfare and Disease Prevention Department Dr. Anjan Das, NHM Joint Mission Director Jubilee Debbarma, and RIPSAT Officer-in-Charge Principal Prof. Dr. Rishiraj Chhetri, who delivered the welcome address.
