Power Consumers’ Association Submits Memorandum to Sonamura Electricity Office Over Steep Power Bill Hike

Date:

Agartala, 5th August 2026:   Protesting the sharp increase in electricity bills and its adverse impact on the common people, the Electricity Consumers and Employees Welfare Association organized a deputation programme at the Sonamura Electricity Office on Wednesday.

The deputation was attended by Sonamura MLA Shyamal Chakraborty, State Committee member Suresh Das, District Committee Secretary Ratan Saha, along with other party leaders and workers.

During the programme, the delegation alleged that the recent abnormal rise in electricity bills has placed an unbearable financial burden on consumers, particularly poor and low-income families. They claimed that many economically weaker households are finding it extremely difficult to pay the increased electricity charges under the current circumstances.

The representatives submitted a memorandum urging the Electricity Department to review the revised electricity bills and take necessary measures to safeguard the interests of the public. They warned that if the trend of steep tariff hikes continues, it will further aggravate the financial hardship faced by ordinary people.

The association called upon the authorities to take immediate corrective steps and ensure that electricity charges remain affordable for all sections of society.
