Agartala, 5th November 2024:  Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu on Tuesday highlighted the significance of driving training for women during a program at the Institute of Driving Training and Research in Jirania. The Governor handed over certificates to women who successfully completed the driving training course.

Speaking at the event, Governor Nallu stated, “Driving is an important science of life. Women need to be more advanced in this field because they can arrange employment anytime through driving. If women know how to drive, it will be possible for them to solve many problems.”

He called for driving training for women through various institutes and emphasized the benefits for government employees, particularly fourth-class workers. “Providing driving training to government employees will improve government work,” he said. The Governor also urged the state police to train home guards in driving and stressed the importance of traffic law awareness. “Women who are aware of driving will be proud of tomorrow. Anywhere they go, they will be respected separately,” he added.

Governor Nallu also demanded a simplified process for issuing driving licenses to children after they learn to drive.

Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, who was also present at the event, praised the government’s efforts towards women’s empowerment. “The double engine government’s commitment to women’s empowerment is evident in today’s certificate distribution after driving training,” he said. Criticizing the opposition, Chowdhury remarked, “Those who were in the government in the past talked about women’s empowerment inside and outside the parliament, but they could not actually outline it.”

He highlighted the introduction of 33 percent reservation for women in Delhi after the current government took office and the various facilities provided by the government. “Development is not possible without women. The 33 percent reservation for women will be there when the state government department fills up the driver post in the coming days,” he added.

Chowdhury also noted the shift in women’s roles, stating, “Earlier, women were dependent on men. Currently, women will participate in the field of driving, starting from the doctor, engineer, and law department.”

At the end of the ceremony, both the Governor and the Minister handed over the driving certificates to the women and congratulated them on their achievement.
