Govt bans import of pigs in state

Agartala: April 12. The state government has imposed ban on importing pigs from outside of the state in a move to prevent diseases in pigs. A press release from state government said that in the interest of pig farmers in the state, the Animal Resource Development Department of Tripura Government has temporarily banned the import of pigs from outside the state and imposed some restrictions to prevent diseases in pigs.

 “Even when this ban would be lifted from import of pig, no live or dead pig can be brought into the state from outside the state without the approval of the Animal Resource Development Department. Pigs can be imported by rail or road only by following the rules of Animal Resource Development Department. In this case, at least 48 hours prior to arrival at the entrance of the State, the Head of the Department should be informed”, the press release reads. It further informed that pigs can only be imported for breeding purposes and not for selling meat. “In this case the Consignment Owner shall have sole responsibility to remove such Consignment if any illegal activity is noticed. This order shall remain in force until further order / notification is issued”, the order reads.
