Agartala, 24th March 2025: Tripura government is intensifying its efforts to enhance higher education and promote linguistic diversity in the state. Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha announced today that the recruitment process for 401 Assistant Professors is progressing, reaffirming the government’s commitment to quality education and faculty development.
Speaking during the second day of the Tripura Legislative Assembly session, Dr. Saha highlighted that the government is prioritizing the upliftment of Kokborok and other minority languages. While addressing cut motions on Supplementary Demands for Grants for the Financial Year 2024-25, brought by MLAs Gopal Chandra Roy and Sailendra Chandra Nath, he stressed the significance of continued investment in linguistic development.
“For the advancement of Kokborok and other minority languages, the state government has adopted several measures. In the 2024-25 Financial Year, a fund of Rs 2 crore 16 lakh 78 thousand has been allocated, supplemented by an additional Rs 52 lakh 98 thousand. These funds are crucial for initiatives such as organizing seminars, workshops, and publishing books to support students learning in their mother tongues,” Dr. Saha stated.
As the Education Minister, Dr. Saha also underscored the expansion of educational infrastructure in Tripura, noting that the state currently has 25 degree colleges, 5 professional degree colleges, 6 polytechnic institutions, and 1 degree technical institute under the Higher Education Department. To maintain operational efficiency, the government has recruited 473 personnel for various roles through outsourcing, while 41 Group C employees and 137 Multi-Purpose Workers have been appointed through JRBT.
Highlighting faculty recruitment efforts, Dr. Saha pointed out that 100 Assistant Professors were hired in 2022-23, and the process to fill 201 more positions is ongoing. Additionally, the finance department has approved the recruitment of 200 more Assistant Professors, reflecting the government’s unwavering focus on permanent appointments in higher education institutions.
“The state government is committed to ensuring faculty availability and sustaining quality education in Tripura. Reducing funds for these initiatives is not an option,” he affirmed, reinforcing the administration’s dedication to academic excellence and cultural preservation.
