Agartala, 1st April 2025:  In response to an unstarred question by MLA Sudeep Sarkar, Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath revealed comprehensive details about the arrangements made by the Farmers Welfare Department to assist flood-affected farmers in the state.

The Minister stated that a total of 1,93,728 farmers were severely impacted by the devastating floods that struck last year. To aid these farmers, the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department has provided substantial support for the purchase of seeds, seedlings, fertilizers, and pesticides. A total of Rs. 24.46 crore has been allocated for this purpose.

Minister Nath further elaborated that the floods had rendered the cultivable land of 11,850 farmers temporarily unfit for cultivation due to the accumulation of sand and silt. In light of this, the department has provided aid to farmers for the immediate cleanup of these affected lands.

Additionally, the state received assistance worth Rs. 5 crore from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), which has been directly transferred to farmers’ accounts for the removal of sand and silt from 2,778 hectares of land. The Minister assured that further assistance would be made available in accordance with the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) rules.

The Minister also clarified that the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department collects data at the block, agricultural subdivision, and district levels, rather than using assembly constituencies for assessment.
