Agartala: July 14. Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha today said that efforts have been made to expand sports and Chess would be included in the schools which will certainly help to develop the intellect among the children.
CM Saha said this after he has participated in a torch rally held for the first time in the world as a part of Chess Olympiad in India which reached Agartala. On this occasion, a program was organized at the Agartala Town Hall under the initiative of the Youth Affairs and Sports Department of the State Government. Grandmaster Mitrav Guha carried this historic torch to Agartala. He handed over the torch to the chief minister at the start of the ceremony.
“Today is a very happy day. The game of Chess originated in our country India. Today this is the first time our country has got the opportunity to organize Chess Olympiad. Plan to take this torch to all the states of the country on the occasion of this Chess Olympiad reflects the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to bind every state of the country on the same basis”, he said.The Chief Minister said that sports are also necessary along with studies because physical and mental development is not possible without sports.
He also said that if the game of chess is included in the school it will also help in developing the intellectual of the students because the brain is exercised through playing chess. “Efforts of the state government will always continue to expand more and more other sports including chess in the state”, he said.Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Dipak Majumder gave detailed information about the upcoming Chess Olympiad in India. He hoped that chess would spread in the state as well. In the last part of the ceremony, the Chief Minister handed over the historic torch of the Chess Olympiad to the President of the All Tripura Chess Association.
