Agartala, 6th February 2024:   Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury announced today that the state government has earmarked Rs 104 crore to broaden the reach of the Chief Minister Jan Arogya Yojana scheme, aiming to cover 4.5 lakh families. This initiative, scheduled for an imminent launch, will provide beneficiaries with cashless and paperless health insurance benefits, offering each family an annual coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh.

Chowdhury revealed that, presently, 4,50,000 families in the state benefit from the Ayushman Bharat-Prime Minister Jan Arogya Yojana, leaving 4,15,000 families without coverage. To bridge this gap, the government intends to introduce the Chief Minister’s Jan Arogya Yojana, mirroring the Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, as outlined in the budget for the fiscal year 2023-24. A budget of Rs 59 crore has been allocated for the successful implementation of this initiative.

“The smart cards issued to beneficiaries will automatically renew for 5 lakh beneficiary families from 1st April every year, eliminating the need for manual renewal,” he clarified.

Chowdhury specified that 10,000 construction workers covered by various insurances under the Labor Department, as well as certain government officials, including the Chief Minister and MLAs, can avail themselves of the scheme. However, Group-A and B government employees currently receiving medical reimbursement, and Group-C and Group-D employees receiving a medical allowance of Rs 6,000 per annum, will be required to surrender those existing benefits.

He added that the estimated annual expenditure for the successful implementation of this healthcare project is Rs 104 crore.
