Agartala: July 14. The state government has decided to open more new 240 Anganwadi centres in Gram Panchayats and in different TTAADC villages.Speaking in a press conference, Education minister Ratan Lal Nath said that in the recently held cabinet meeting it has been decided to open 240 new Anganwari Centers in Gram Panchayats and ADC Villages in different blocks of the state.
“These Anganwari Centers will be opened under the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) under the Department of Social Welfare and Social Education. This decision was taken in the cabinet meeting on July 12”, Nath said.
He further said that currently Tripura have 9,911 Anganwadi Centers which are functioning in the state under 56 Integrated Child Development Schemes. He said that 31 Anganwadi centers will be opened in West Tripura district, 31 in South Tripura district, 37 in Gomati district, 31 in Khowai district, 27 in Dhalai district, 25 in Sepahijala district, 22 in Unakoti district and 14 in North Tripura district. Also a total of 22 Anganwadi Centers will be opened in the areas where Brus were rehabilitated.
He further said that a project called ‘Pun Bania’ has been taken up under the Tribal Welfare Department to provide self-employment to the tribal. The Minister of Education while informing about this decision of the Cabinet said that the objective of the ‘Pun Bania’ project is to make the youth of the state self-employed through goat rearing. He said, in this project, the members of the self-help groups will be given loans to buy goats from the government.
