Agartala, 21st September 2026 : Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Monday said the Tripura government will create dedicated green corridors to facilitate the smooth movement of ambulances carrying critically ill patients during emergencies.
Speaking at the inauguration of a new Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD) at the Super Specialty Block of Government Medical College and GBP Hospital, Saha said a series of meetings had been held on improving ambulance movement and ensuring patients do not get delayed due to traffic congestion.
The Chief Minister, who also holds the Health portfolio, said the government is working to strengthen medical infrastructure and reduce the need for patients to travel outside Tripura for advanced treatment.
“Our goal is to bring referrals outside the state to zero,” Saha said, adding that the number of patients being referred outside Tripura has already declined significantly.
The newly inaugurated ICU has 18 beds, with separate nine-bed facilities for men and women. The ICU and CSSD were established at a cost of Rs 13.5 crore.
Saha said advanced training is being provided to doctors and healthcare workers to operate modern medical facilities efficiently. He also announced plans for round-the-clock CCTV surveillance at GBP Hospital and steps to ensure uninterrupted availability of essential generic medicines.
Health Secretary Kiran Gitte and senior health officials were present at the programme.
