Agartala, 21st September 2026 : Ahead of the Village Committee General Election-2026 under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), prohibitory orders have been imposed across West Tripura district to ensure peaceful, free and fair polling.
According to an order issued by West Tripura District Magistrate and Collector Dr. Vishal Kumar, IAS, the restrictions will remain in force from 4 pm on September 26 to 6 am on September 29, 2026. Polling for the Village Committee election is scheduled for September 28 from 7 am to 5 pm.
Under the order, assembly of five or more persons has been prohibited across the district, including within a 200-metre radius of polling stations. Public meetings, rallies, gatherings and public addresses, with or without loudspeakers, have also been prohibited during the specified period.
The administration has further prohibited the movement of two or more motorcycles or vehicles together if such movement amounts to an illegal assembly. On polling day, only voters and persons holding valid passes issued by authorised election officials will be permitted to enter polling booths.
The order has been issued following directions from the State Election Commission and concerns over possible illegal distribution of cash, gifts and liquor to influence voters, as well as apprehension of activities that could disrupt public peace and the polling process.
However, the restrictions will not apply to polling personnel, CAPF and police personnel on election duty, authorised media persons, government employees on duty and vehicles engaged in election-related work. Voters with valid identity cards will also be permitted to travel to polling stations, subject to the prescribed conditions.
Routine government and private office functioning, educational activities, normal religious gatherings, marriages, business transactions and regular passenger transport have also been exempted.
Violators of the order will face action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
