Health department intensifies dengue prevention drive in Tripura amid rising mosquito breeding conditions

Agartala, 12th November 2025 :   With favorable weather conditions accelerating the breeding of Aedes mosquitoes across Tripura, health authorities have ramped up preventive measures to curb the spread of dengue fever, particularly in the Unakoti district.

Aedes mosquitoes, known to bite during daylight hours, are the primary carriers of the dengue virus. Health officials have warned that the current climate has created ideal conditions for mosquito proliferation, increasing the risk of dengue outbreaks. Common symptoms of dengue include high fever, severe headache, joint pain, nausea, vomiting, and skin rashes. While there is no specific antiviral treatment for dengue, timely symptomatic care at health centers has proven effective in aiding recovery.

In response to the rising risk of dengue, the Health and Family Welfare Department has launched a comprehensive control campaign across Unakoti district. The initiative involves house-to-house inspections to identify and eliminate mosquito breeding sites, larvicidal spraying and fogging in vulnerable areas, and public awareness drives conducted through miking, banners, and mobile education units. It also includes the distribution of pamphlets and mosquito repellents, the organization of health camps offering diagnostic services and medicines, and inter-departmental coordination meetings with the District Administration, Social Welfare, Education, Drinking Water, and Block Development offices to ensure unified action.

A delegation from the State Health Department has also visited dengue-affected zones to assess the situation and provide strategic guidance. Authorities confirmed that adequate stocks of diagnostic kits and medicines are available to manage suspected cases.

Officials emphasized that dengue is a preventable disease and urged residents to take proactive steps to minimize mosquito breeding and exposure. They advised covering all water storage containers to block mosquito access, using mosquito nets while sleeping both during the day and at night, and disposing of unused items such as tires, coconut shells, and plastic containers that can collect stagnant water. Additionally, they recommended cleaning appliances like refrigerators and coolers on a weekly basis, wearing full-body clothing during the day, and applying mosquito repellents regularly to avoid bites.

“Small bites can lead to big dangers,” a health official noted, urging citizens to remain vigilant and proactive. The department reiterated that community participation is crucial in breaking the transmission cycle and safeguarding public health.
