Agartala, 31st May 2024: A disturbing incident of negligence by health workers at IGM Hospital has come to light, causing outrage among the community.
On Thursday night around 10 pm, Prasenjit Pal rushed his 20-month-old daughter, Argani Pal, to the emergency department of IGM Hospital after she sustained serious burns from hot water falling on her head and face.
Despite the urgency of the situation, the family was left waiting for an agonizing 30 minutes in the dressing room before receiving any medical attention. According to Pal, the attending doctor promptly directed them to the dressing room for immediate treatment. However, to their dismay, no health worker was present to administer the necessary care.
After a prolonged wait, a health worker finally arrived, having come from another department. When questioned by media personnel, the worker was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for his absence, vaguely mentioning a visit to the gas plant for 10 minutes. This unsatisfactory response has further fueled the frustration and anger of the affected family and the local community.
During the distressing wait, Argani Pal’s cries of pain eventually drew the attention of the doctor, who then administered the necessary medication.
Prasenjit Pal, a resident of the area adjacent to Lalbahadur Club, has publicly condemned the negligence exhibited by the health workers. He highlighted the critical importance of reliable 24-hour service in the emergency department, stressing that such services should be functional and not merely nominal. Mr. Pal has called on the Health Department to take immediate action to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
