Heavy Rain Disrupts Life in Teliamura; Uprooted Tree Damages Two Houses, Several Injured

Date:

Agartala, 12th July 2026:   Continuous heavy rainfall has severely disrupted normal life across Teliamura subdivision. Amid the inclement weather, a tragic incident occurred late Saturday night at Hawai Bari Thangnai Bazar area, where a massive banyan tree was uprooted during a storm and fell on two adjacent residential houses.

The impact of the falling tree caused partial collapse of the houses, leaving several family members trapped and injured inside. Soon after the incident, panic spread across the locality as residents rushed to the spot and rescued the injured. They were later shifted to Teliamura Sub-Divisional Hospital for medical treatment.

After being informed, members of the disaster management team from the Teliamura sub-division administration reached the site and launched a rescue operation. The team worked for several hours to cut and remove the fallen tree and bring the situation under control.

On Sunday morning, the MLA of Teliamura Assembly Constituency, along with senior administrative officials, visited the affected area. They met the victims’ families, assessed the situation, and assured them of necessary assistance from the administration, including financial support as per government norms, medical aid for the injured, and help in rebuilding the damaged houses.

Meanwhile, the incident has sparked resentment among local residents. They alleged that several old and dangerous trees, along with safety concerns related to electricity lines in the area, had been brought to the attention of the concerned departments for a long time, but no effective action was taken.

Residents claimed that timely preventive measures could have avoided the accident. However, no official response has so far been received from the concerned department regarding allegations of negligence against an electricity department official.
