Agartala, 21st July 2024:  BSF deployed in Tripura has beefed up the security along the border as the current law and order situation in Bangladesh due to anti-reservation protests is presenting security challenges and implications for the BSF (Border Security Force) as Tripura is a bordering state surrounded on three sides by Bangladesh.

As per a BSF press release, one of the primary concerns right now is the safe return of Indian students studying there. The number of Indian students in Bangladesh is believed to be close to 8,000, and most of them are enrolled in medical colleges.

“Most of these students are studying in medical colleges at Comilla, Brahmanbaria, and Dhaka. Many have chosen to enter India through four ICPs (Integrated Check Posts) and LCSs (Land Customs Stations), especially through Agartala in West Tripura district and Srimantapur in Sepahijala district. Yesterday, the BSF facilitated the entry of 365 students, with around 300 entering through ICP Srimantapur in Sepahijala District”, the press release reads.

The press release stated that the BSF has made all arrangements at these ICPs for the students’ safe arrival, which includes refreshments, food packets, transportation, medical aid, etc.

“The BSF is in close coordination with the local administration and other agencies to ensure that the entire process takes place without any glitches. Clear directions have been given to officers to personally supervise the arrival of these students through ICPs so that no inconvenience is faced by them”, it said.

The BSF is also expecting more students to cross over in the coming days and is fully prepared to provide all assistance and ensure their safe return home.

“The prevailing law and order situation is a security concern for the BSF as they are entrusted with guarding the border. The BSF is fully aware of the situation and has beefed up security to prevent criminal elements from across the border from taking advantage of the current situation. BSF troops are on high alert to deal with any situation that might arise due to the prevailing disturbances in the neighboring country. Maximum troops have been mobilized and sent to the border, and all senior commanders are camping at the border to ensure a high level of operational preparedness. The BSF is fully committed to securing the boundaries of our country in the bordering state of Tripura and is fully prepared to deal with any challenges that the current situation might present”, it added.
