Agartala, 12th April 2025: A serious road accident involving a high-ranking police officer’s escort vehicle left a young couple and their child critically injured on Saturday. The incident took place on the Agartala-Sabroom National Highway in the Chhanban Housing Board area of Udaipur.

The victims have been identified as Suman Malsum (18), Geetshari Malsum (22), and their 3-year-old daughter Argita Malsum, all residents of Pitra Tholibari. Eyewitnesses reported that the police escort vehicle, bearing registration number TR06 0808, collided with their bike and fled the scene without offering any assistance.

Locals rushed to their aid and immediately contacted the fire department. Fire personnel promptly arrived at the spot and rescued the injured, who were then taken to the Gomati District Hospital. Hospital authorities confirmed that the condition of all three remains critical and they are under intensive care.

Following the incident, enraged residents of the area blocked the highway in protest, demanding accountability and action. Protesters alleged that the escort vehicle showed blatant disregard for human life by fleeing the scene without helping the injured.

Moreover, locals who checked the vehicle details on the M Paribahan app found that the escort vehicle’s insurance and pollution documents had expired. This revelation has triggered fresh concerns and outrage, with locals questioning how a police department vehicle without valid documents was allowed to ply the roads.

“There are regular small and big accidents on this stretch of the national highway. No authority takes action despite repeated complaints. The situation is becoming dangerous, especially for pedestrians and two-wheeler riders,” a protester said.

The incident has once again raised serious questions about road safety, police accountability, and the lax enforcement of traffic regulations, even when it involves official vehicles.

Authorities are yet to issue a formal statement on the incident.
