Home department faces crisis with 6,891 vacancies: Pranajit Singha Roy

Agartala, 8th January 2024:   In a crucial revelation during the second day of the winter session of the 11th Legislative Assembly, Minister Prananjit Singha Roy disclosed that the State Home Department is grappling with a staggering 6891 vacancies. Responding to queries from CPIM MLA Narayan Sarkar, the minister acknowledged the gravity of the situation, emphasizing that the ongoing process to fill these positions is dynamic and continuous.

MLA Narayan Sarkar, expressed concerns about the state’s security, asserting that the defense department holds a pivotal role in safeguarding the region. Sarkar highlighted the approval of two IR battalions but raised apprehensions about recruitment feasibility. He urged the authorities to provide a specific date for the resolution of the vacancies to ensure the state’s safety.

Adding to the discourse, Congress MLA Gopal Roy questioned the sustainability of leaving these vacancies open for an extended period. He pressed the minister on whether the ambitious goal of filling all vacancies within one year is feasible. In response, Minister Pranajit Singha Roy reiterated the ongoing nature of the recruitment process, emphasizing the challenges but refraining from committing to a specific timeline. The uncertainty surrounding the timeline for filling these vacancies continues to raise concerns about the state’s defense capabilities
