Agartala, 27th February 2025: A housewife from Karuimura area, identified as Lituara Begum, attempted suicide by consuming poison on Thursday afternoon following a family dispute. The critically injured woman was initially taken to Bishalgarh Subdistrict Hospital, where the attending doctor referred her to Agartala GBP Hospital for advanced treatment. However, an inordinate delay in ambulance availability led to frustration among the patient’s relatives, triggering a tense situation at the hospital.
According to sources, Bishalgarh Subdistrict Hospital currently operates with only one functioning ambulance, while another is allocated through the 102 emergency helpline service. Moreover, a shortage of ambulance drivers has exacerbated the crisis. Despite booking an ambulance through 102, the patient’s family was forced to wait for an extended period without any response, further aggravating their distress. The delay led to a heated exchange between the patient’s relatives and hospital staff.
Eventually, after a long wait, an ambulance arrived, and Lituara Begum was shifted to Agartala GBP Hospital in critical condition. This incident has once again highlighted the long-standing issue of inadequate ambulance services at Bishalgarh Subdistrict Hospital, putting patients’ lives at risk due to delays in emergency medical transportation.
Local residents and patient families have expressed their growing concern over the hospital’s inefficient ambulance system, urging authorities to take immediate action to ensure timely medical assistance in critical situations.
