Agartala, 19th October 2024:   In a tragic incident from the Melaghar Hospital Road area, a housewife named Mithu Rani Saha was found dead under mysterious circumstances after enduring alleged torture for 11 years of marriage. Police have recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death.

Mithu Rani Saha was married to Nitai Saha from Amarpur New Market near Melaghar had reportedly been suffering abuse from her husband, mother-in-law, and other in-laws for over a decade. “My sister endured years of torment, yet she tried to stand by her husband through it all,” said her brother, Ramakrishna Saha, while speaking to the media. He added that the abuse escalated in recent days, with his sister’s arm and leg allegedly broken by the perpetrators.

On Friday night, Mithu Rani’s brother attempted to reach her, only to find that she had been severely beaten. “They killed her and hanged her body,” he claimed, accusing the in-laws of murder. Following the discovery, local police from Melaghar rushed to the scene and took the accused husband and mother-in-law into custody to prevent further escalation of violence. According to sources, there were attempts to attack Mithu Rani’s family when they arrived.

The community has reacted strongly to the incident, with local residents demanding strict punishment for the accused. “This is an atrocity that a civilized society cannot tolerate,” said one local. Ramakrishna Saha, in his plea for justice, demanded the death penalty for those responsible, stating, “They killed my sister; they must be hanged for this crime.”

The police investigation is ongoing, and the results of the post-mortem are awaited to determine the next course of action.
