Agartala, 21st November 2025: Dharmanagar subdivision has been shaken by the death of a young housewife in Kalagangarpara village under Kadamtala police station. The body of 25-year-old Asma Begum was found hanging in her husband’s residence at Vithargol Ward No. 2, casting a shadow of grief and suspicion across the locality.
Family members of the deceased allege that Asma was murdered and that the incident is being disguised as suicide.
Police and local sources informed that Asma Begum, wife of Sab Uddin and daughter of Habibur Rahman, was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan with a scarf on Friday morning. Her mother-in-law, Saleha Begum, was the first to notice the incident. Family members rushed her to Kadamtala Community Health Centre, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Asma, originally from Bithargol Ward No. 7, was the daughter of Abdul Ahad. She leaves behind a young son. Reports suggest that her marital life had been troubled, with frequent disputes, community arbitration, and even pending court cases.
The victim’s brother, Asad Uddin, lodged a written complaint at Kadamtala police station against her husband and four other members of the in-laws’ family. He alleged: “My sister was deliberately killed, and the murder is being projected as suicide.”
Kadamtala police have sent the body for post-mortem examination at the Kadamtala Community Health Centre morgue. The investigation is being led by ASI D. M. Chakma. Authorities confirmed that the body will be handed over to relatives after the autopsy.
Local residents are demanding a thorough investigation and strict punishment for those found guilty. Questions have also arisen regarding the future care of Asma’s child, adding to the gravity of the situation.
