Agartala, 21st November 2025: A sprawling bamboo plantation has been developed across 20 hectares of hilly terrain in Masuraipara under the supervision of the Ambassa Forest Range. The initiative, carried out during the 2023–24 financial year, is part of the Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA) project.
Located about three to four kilometers from the Assam–Agartala National Highway, the plantation can be reached only by trekking through rugged hill paths. The site now stands as a striking expanse of greenery amid the hills.
Forest official Haradhan Pal said nearly 22,000 saplings were initially planted across the 20-hectare stretch. “Today, the plantation has grown to more than one lakh bamboo plants,” he noted, adding that the project will eventually be handed over to the Joint Forest Management Committee (JFMC) of Masuraipara.
Namonjoy Reang, president of the Masuraipara JFMC, expressed optimism about the project’s economic potential. “There is high demand for bamboo, and this plantation includes several varieties such as Rupai and Mrittinga. Once harvesting begins, the community will benefit significantly,” he said. However, he stressed the need for improved transport facilities to ensure better access to the site.
Officials believe the plantation marks a milestone for the Ambassa Range, both in terms of ecological restoration and community livelihood. The lush bamboo groves spread across the hills present a new landscape of green abundance, symbolizing sustainable development in the region.
