Agartala, 1st April 2026:   Ahead of the crucial Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections on April 12, Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Asish Kumar Saha has pitched the party as the champion of tribal rights, pledging to end decades of neglect in the region.

Addressing the media, Saha highlighted that the elections are pivotal for the Congress, which is contesting 27 of the 28 seats in a three-party alliance with the Tripura People’s Party and Jan Manch. He stressed that the alliance aims to restore good governance and empower the tribal population, long deprived of their rightful benefits under the Sixth Schedule, which was implemented during the tenure of the late former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Saha pointed out that despite the constitutional safeguards, tribal communities continue to face deprivation, and the Congress-led alliance is determined to fight for their rights. “Our candidates will actively seek the support of the common people to ensure that governance in the ADC area is transparent, effective, and responsive to their needs,” he said.

The party also noted that by-elections in Dharmanagar Assembly Constituency on April 9 add to the political momentum, underscoring Congress’s strategy to consolidate tribal votes and strengthen its presence in the region.
