Agartala, 25th July 2026: A human skeleton was recovered on Saturday morning from the Chandrai stream in the New Palli area of Ambassa, triggering widespread panic and speculation among local residents. The skeletal remains were discovered lying partially submerged in water and on the stream bank, raising questions about their origin.
According to reports, laborers working near land owned by Khagesh Debnath first spotted the skeleton and immediately informed the landowner. Debnath then alerted Ambassa police, who swiftly reached the site along with Officer-in-Charge Nandan Das. The matter was also reported to the sub-divisional administration.
Soon after, Sub-Divisional Police Officer Kishore Uchui, DCM Pooja Riang, a forensic team, and doctors from Dhalai District Hospital arrived at the location. Under official supervision, the forensic experts conducted a detailed examination of the remains, followed by an on-site post-mortem by the medical team.
Police sources indicated that preliminary investigation suggests the skeleton belonged to a male and may be more than a month old, as no flesh remained on the bones. Authorities suspect the stream’s current may have eroded or washed away any remaining tissue. Officials confirmed that only a forensic report and full investigation will determine the identity of the deceased and how the skeleton ended up in the stream.
The recovery has left the Ambassa locality in shock, with police intensifying their probe into the matter.
