Agartala, 25th July 2026: The CPI(M) has announced a series of statewide political programmes and mass agitations in the coming weeks, focusing on issues including law and order, the death of Tripura Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankhar, unemployment, price rise, poor road infrastructure and the condition of farmers.
Addressing a press conference following the party’s two-day State Committee meeting, CPI(M) Tripura State Secretary and Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury said the meeting reviewed the prevailing political situation in the state and adopted an action plan to intensify public movements on what he described as the government’s failure to address people’s concerns.
The State Committee paid tribute to party leaders who had passed away since its previous meeting and also mourned the death of DGP Anurag Dhankhar. Chaudhury described the senior IPS officer as an honest and dedicated official and reiterated the party’s demand for a judicial inquiry under the supervision of a sitting High Court judge, expressing doubts over the effectiveness of the Special Investigation Team constituted by the state government.
Alleging a sharp deterioration in the state’s law and order situation, Chaudhury referred to recent attacks on CPI(M) workers and offices and accused the BJP-led government of failing to protect democratic rights.
Announcing the party’s programmes, he said CPI(M) would organise protest meetings over the poor condition of national highways, particularly along the Teliamura and Khowai routes. On August 10, the party, along with farmers’, agricultural labourers’ and workers’ organisations, will participate in nationwide demonstrations, including a ‘Jail Bharo’ movement against unemployment, inflation and agrarian distress.
He further announced that the State Conference of the All India Kisan Sabha will be held from September 1 to 3 in Agartala, culminating in a massive rally. Chaudhury also said the party has begun preparations for the upcoming Village Committee and municipal elections while continuing its campaign against alleged corruption and governance failures in the state.
