Agartala, 21st June 2024: A job fair hosted at the Labor Department office on Office Lane here drew hundreds of job seekers on Friday. Organized by five private companies from the state, the fair aimed to fill 74 vacant positions through interviews conducted throughout the morning.
By early morning, a long queue of young job seekers had formed, highlighting the pressing issue of unemployment in the state. A representative from the Labor Department acknowledged the stark reality, noting that the number of unemployed youth far exceeds the available job openings.
“The unemployment problem is significant,” the official stated. “The number of vacancies is not sufficient to meet the demand, and there is a distinct lack of organizational infrastructure in the Northeast.”
Despite the limited opportunities, the fair saw a large turnout, reflecting the desperation and frustration among the job-seeking youth. With the number of applicants greatly outnumbering the available positions, many left the event disappointed, underscoring the need for more comprehensive employment solutions in the region.
