Agartala, 29th June 2026: A special training and seed distribution program on stress-tolerant and herbicide-tolerant rice was organized at Rajarshi Kalakshetra, Udaipur, with the objective of promoting modern technology and enhancing agricultural productivity. The initiative was jointly undertaken by the Central Rice Research Institute (Cuttack) and ICAR–National Research Centre for Orchids (Sikkim), in collaboration with the State Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Bagma Agri Producer Company Limited, and Kakraban Agri Farmers’ Fed Producer Company Limited.
MLA Jitendra Majumder inaugurated the camp on Monday by lighting the ceremonial lamp. Distinguished guests included Sujan Sen, Sabhadhipati of Gomati Zilla Parishad; Dr. Shankar Prasad Das, Director of ICAR-NRCO; Senior Scientist Dr. Mirdhul Chakraborty; Principal Scientist Dr. Arup Kumar Mukherjee; and Sudip Majumder, Managing Director of Bagma Agri Producer Company.
During the technical sessions, experts emphasized the role of stress-tolerant rice varieties in addressing climate change challenges, modern cultivation practices, and scientific weed management. Following the discussions, high-quality rice seeds were distributed among farmers. The program generated notable enthusiasm in the farming community, with participants expressing confidence that such modern technology and training will significantly boost yields and strengthen self-reliance in agriculture.
