Agartala, 19th January 2026 : The ICFAI University Tripura celebrated Kokborok Day today with great enthusiasm and cultural pride at its University Campus, reaffirming its commitment to preserving and promoting the rich linguistic and cultural heritage of Tripura.
The programme was organised to honour Kokborok, the indigenous language of Tripura, and to recognize its historical, social, and cultural significance.
Litterateur, Social Activist, Composer, Dr. Naphurai Jamatia, Kokborok Dramatist, Director and Writer Ruhi Chandra Debbarma, and Dr. Pritilata Debbarma, Faculty of Tripura University graced the program as Guest.
The Registrar, Dr. A Ranganath & Dean, Dr. Dhananjay Datta of the ICFAI University Tripura also graced the program. Faculty members, students, and staff actively participated in the celebration, making the event vibrant and meaningful.
The celebration began with an inaugural session highlighting the importance of Kokborok in shaping the identity of the indigenous communities of the state. Speakers emphasized the need to protect, promote, and pass on the language to future generations through education, research, and cultural engagement.
A series of cultural performances, including traditional songs, dances, recitations in Kokborok, were presented by students, reflecting the richness of indigenous traditions and artistic expressions. The speakers reiterated ICFAI University Tripura’s dedication to inclusivity, cultural diversity, and regional heritage. The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks.
