Agartala, 21st April 2026: The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Gomati District Hospital has become a source of fear rather than relief, with patients and families alleging severe mismanagement.
For several days, the ICU’s air-conditioning system has remained completely non-functional, leaving critically ill patients gasping in stifling heat. To make matters worse, most ceiling fans are either broken or running at minimal speed, intensifying the suffocating conditions.
Patients already battling serious illnesses are now facing additional risks due to the unbearable heat, while their families express deep concern and anger over the lack of urgent repairs.
Relatives have questioned why, despite repeated complaints, no effective steps have been taken to restore basic infrastructure in such a sensitive unit. “How can such negligence be tolerated in an ICU, where lives are at stake?” one family member asked.
The situation has raised serious questions about administrative accountability. Observers warn that the state of Gomati District Hospital’s ICU reflects the grim reality of broader healthcare infrastructure failures.
