Agartala, 2nd January 2024 : Tripura State Centre of The Institution of Engineers (India) (IEI) has been conferred the Best State Centre Award of the IEI for all round performance during 2022-23 in the 38th Indian Engineering Congress which has been held at Jabalpur during 27-29 December 2023 on the theme “Reimagining Tomorrow: Shaping the Future through Disruptive and Interdisciplinary Technologies”.
The prestigious Indian Engineering Congress is organized by the IEI every year since 1987. It is the largest congregation of engineers from all over the country as well as from several countries. The aim of the Indian Engineering Congress is to enlighten the technical fraternity about developments in various fields of engineering and thereby enable them to face future challenges and ensure the development of the nation. This year the Jabalpur Local Centre of the IEI hosted the Congress with support from the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, and many other national organisations.
The Best State Centre Award was received by Dr. Subhadeep Bhattacharjee, Chairman of the IEI Tripura State Centre from Er. Rajendra Shukla, Deputy Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh on 27th December during the inaugural ceremony of the 38th Indian Engineering Congress amid a galaxy of eminent engineers and dignitaries held at Hotel Royal Orbit, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh.
IEI awarded the Best State Centre for all-round quality performance to a centre of the institute in North-East India for the first time in the history of IEI which is an unprecedented recognition. In a statement, Chairman of the IEI Tripura State Centre Dr. Subhadeep Bhattacharjee has conveyed thanks to all those who have supported the Centre throughout this journey and have worked with Tripura State Centre to make this possible.
It is pertinent to mention that IEI is the first professional organization in India for engineers and it was formed in 1920, as the first professional body for engineers in the country. The Institution was incorporated by Royal Charter in 1935 to promote and advance the science and practice of engineering and technology.
Today, the Institution has over 2 lakh members encompassing 15 engineering disciplines. The Institution has 125 State & Local Centres across India and six overseas chapters. IEI Industry Excellence Award and IEI Education Excellence Award were given to 18 industries including PSUs and Multinationals and 9 renowned engineering educational institutions in the Congress. Over the three days of event, 8 Memorial Lectures in the memory of the doyens of the engineering profession were delivered by top engineering professionals from across all over India and foreign countries.
To foster global collaboration, an International Meet was organised during the Congress in order to unite engineers and technologists worldwide, providing a platform for knowledge exchange, information sharing, and the formation of strategic alliances. The most important part of the Congress was the presentation of 75 technical papers meticulously selected by expert panels from more than 350 papers received from authors from across the country and abroad, in 10 technical sessions.
During the 3 day event, stalls by different organisations at the venue showed their contributions to nation building. In a message, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his best wishes for the success of the 38th Indian Engineering Congress.
