Date:

Agartala, 7th June 2026: An accident occurred near Kunjan Fire Station adjacent to GB Hospital due to alleged illegal roadside parking, raising fresh concerns over traffic management in the city.

According to reports, a Bolero vehicle was left parked on the roadside by its driver, who had stepped away to a nearby shop for photocopy work. During this time, a passenger-loaded tomtom vehicle collided with the stationary car from behind.

The impact left four passengers injured, including a woman in critical condition. The injured have been identified as Sushil Das, Johnson Debbarma, and Rajib Barman, along with one unidentified female passenger.

Fire service personnel present at the spot immediately rescued the injured and shifted them to GB Pant Hospital for treatment. All are currently undergoing medical care.

The driver of the tomtom claimed that he lost control of the vehicle after another car overtook him suddenly, leading to the collision with the parked Bolero. He also sustained injuries in the incident.

The vehicles involved—bearing registration numbers TR01 M 2144 (tomtom) and TR01 CF 0767 (Bolero)—have been taken into police custody as investigations continue.

Locals have expressed concern over the increasing incidents caused by illegal roadside parking in the city, alleging that traffic enforcement remains weak and inconsistent, contributing to rising road safety risks.
