Illegal selling of PDS rice goes rampant in capital city; Food officials seizes 2 sacks of rice

Agartala, June 30, 2023: Allegations of illegal selling of rice and other PDS products in the open market from some ration shops while the shopkeepers are selling at Rs 30 to 35 per Kg in different places including the capital city.

This time, the locals caught a person along with sacks of rice which is being transported for selling to open market illegally from the government fair price shop here on Friday.

It is alleged that a shopkeeper of Maharajganj Bazar often took bags of rice from Government Fair Price Shop No. 13 on Jagannath Bari Road. On Friday too, he was caught by local people while carrying two sacks of rice on his bike. It is learned that since ration dealer Kashinath Ghosh is sick, his daughter and grandson are running this ration shop.

The locals seized the sack of rice and informed the officials of the Food department. Officials of Sadar Food department rushed and confiscated two sacks of rice. Food Inspector Debajyoti Chakraborty said that they will report the matter to the Sadar Sub-Divisional Magistrate and an investigation will be done.

It has been demanded to take action in the order of investigation of the whole incident so that those who engage in such activities illegally be warned.
