Agartala, 20th February 2026 After years of delay, authorities have finally cleared illegal shops from the entrance of Radha Kishore Institution (RKI) in Kailashahar, bringing relief to parents and students.
For decades, several families had occupied government land in front of the school, running shops despite repeated complaints. Earlier attempts during the tenure of a former SDM failed to remove them. The issue resurfaced recently when, during the school’s annual day celebration, the headmaster appealed directly to the District Magistrate to ensure the removal of the shops. Acting on this request, the current administration ordered the eviction.
Officials confirmed that the displaced shopkeepers are being relocated to an alternative site along the road adjacent to the school ground. Kailashahar Municipal Council Vice-Chairperson Nitish Dey noted that while past initiatives had stalled, this time the eviction was successfully carried out under district administration directives.
Parents had long raised concerns about the shops, alleging that groups of youths often loitered there during school hours, particularly when girls left for home. Complaints also surfaced about the sale and consumption of intoxicants in some of the establishments.
With the removal, residents expect the school frontage to become cleaner and more spacious, easing movement for students and guardians. Authorities assured that notices were served to all affected shopkeepers and alternative arrangements are underway.
Welcoming the move, many parents praised the administration, calling it essential for ensuring student safety and a healthy learning environment.
