Agartala, 28th March 2026:   . Agartala has been rocked by reports of rampant forest crime. Acting on a tip-off, the Sadar Forest Unit carried out a special operation in a rubber plantation at Anandnagar’s Ward No. 9.

During the raid, forest officials recovered a large stockpile of illegally stored timber. A vehicle and a wood-cutting machine were also seized from the site. Authorities estimate the market value of the confiscated timber to be around Rs 4 lakh.

Officials confirmed that an investigation has been launched to identify those involved in the illegal trade.

The recovery of such a large cache of timber within city limits has raised questions about administrative oversight. The Forest Department has stated that similar operations will be intensified in the coming days to curb forest-related crimes.
