Agartala, 28th March 2026:   In a move that has redefined local agricultural norms, Ebadul Haque, a resilient farmer from Indira Nagar, has achieved remarkable success through the unconventional cultivation of sweet corn.

While the Sonamura subdivision is traditionally known for standard vegetable farming, Haque transformed three kani of land near the southern banks of Rudrasagar into a thriving golden field, catching both the community and the market by surprise.

Encouraged by a friend in the agricultural sector and guided by frequent technical visits from the local Agriculture & Farmers Welfare Department, Haque adopted modern techniques like plastic mulching and systematic row spacing.

His investment of approximately Rs 12,000 to Rs 15,000 per kani is now yielding a staggering 100% return on investment. The demand for his high-quality “luxury” crop is so significant that warehouse owners and wholesalers bypass traditional markets, traveling directly to his doorstep to secure the harvest.

Visual evidence from the site shows a sea of vibrant green stalks reaching heights of six feet, with healthy tassels and swelling cobs indicating a peak reproductive stage. By pivoting away from traditional rice and mustard, Haque has not only secured his own financial self-reliance but has also become a vocal advocate for crop diversification, proving that innovation in the fertile soils of Melaghar is a lucrative path for the next generation of farmers.
