Illicit affair sparks chaos: Alleged robbers assault family, steal cash and jewelry at Panisagar

Agartala, 13th May 2025:   Residents of Ward No. 2 in Ranibari Gram Panchayat, under Kadamtala Police Station, are in shock after an alleged attack on the home of local resident Shukra Bauri. A group of six individuals—some reportedly disguised as robbers allegedly assaulted Bauri’s family and took Rs 1 lakh 70 thousand in cash along with a gold necklace and a pair of earrings.

The incident took place at 1:16 am yesterday has raised concerns over safety in the area. According to sources, the attack stemmed from personal disputes involving Bauri’s wife, Roni Bauri, who allegedly had an illicit relationship with Mangal Nayak (41), son of Haradhan Nayak.

Following a dispute between the couple, Roni Bauri reportedly left the house and did not return. Later that night, a group consisting of her father, uncle, and brother allegedly entered Bauri’s home under the guise of robbers. In the ensuing violence, Bauri, his brother Budhu Bauri, mother Debamati Bauri and brother’s wife Krishna Bauri sustained serious injuries.Local residents rushed to assist and transported the injured to Bajendranagar Community Health Center for medical attention. Of particular concern is Krishna Bauri, who is pregnant raising fears about her condition.“We were attacked suddenly, and they looted everything. My family is devastated,” alleged Shukra Bauri demanding justice.

Upon receiving reports of the incident, SI Manik Datta of Kadamtala Police Station visited the scene early in the morning. He confirmed that Roni Bauri had gone to Mangal Nayak’s home further complicating the situation.Evidence reportedly ties Saptami Bauri, another resident to the event. Police claim phone records indicate that Nayak and Bauri called the family of Roni Bauri from Murti Chhara School Ground, Unakoti district, leading to the escalation.

“The investigation is ongoing, and all individuals involved will face legal consequences once formal complaints are lodged,” said SI Datta, reassuring the community.

The incident has fueled tension among locals, with many expressing shock over the scale of the attack.

“This has never happened in our area before. We demand a proper investigation,” urged a local resident, emphasizing the need for swift police action.

Authorities have arrested Mangal Nayak for questioning amid concerns over escalating unrest.
