Agartala, 13th May 2025:   Residents of Panisagar Sub-Division were left alarmed after yet another theft occurred within a short distance of a previous incident in the Radhakrishna Palli area. The latest crime was reported in Ward No. 3, near the Panisagar Panchadevata Temple and the Fire Department.

According to shop owner Santosh Das, the incident took place at around 2:20 AM yesterday. “I locked up the shop like I do every night and went home,” said Das. However, upon returning the next morning, he found that the back door was open and a window rod had been forcibly removed, allowing the thief to enter.

The perpetrator reportedly made away with cigarettes, gutka, powdered milk, liquid milk and around Rs 200 in cash. Das estimated his total losses from consecutive thefts to be around Rs 5 to 6 thousand rupees expressing deep concern over the growing insecurity in the area.

Following the complaint, police officers from Panisagar Police Station arrived at the scene, conducted an inspection, and registered a formal case. “We have received the complaint and will intensify our search to identify and apprehend the accused,” said a police official.

Local journalists investigating the incident obtained CCTV footage from nearby establishments. Although the footage captured a suspect—a middle-aged man wearing a blue half-sleeved shirt and shorts at approximately 2:48 AM—his face was not clearly identifiable. The stolen goods were reportedly taken to a nearby spare parts shop before the suspect left via the Assam-Agartala National Highway toward Panisagar railway station.  Authorities suspect that this theft and another reported on May 13 were likely committed by the same individual. “It is alarming that such crimes are happening so close to the Fire Department office,” said a worried resident of Panisagar Nagar Panchayat. Locals are increasingly anxious about the effectiveness of law enforcement in tackling the rising theft incidents.  With the CCTV evidence handed over to the police, residents now await further developments in the investigation. Whether authorities will be able to track down the suspect remains to be seen.
