In-laws, husband accused of assulting housewife

Agartala, 8th February 2024:   In a disturbing incident of domestic violence, a housewife in Kalapania, under the jurisdiction of Sonamura police station, has been seriously injured. The victim, identified as Sirina Akhtar, daughter of Habibur Rahman from the Sonapur area, was allegedly subjected to brutal abuse by her husband, Abdul Haque.

Reports indicated that Sirina Akhtar was married to Abdul Haque of Kalapaniya Gram Panchayat area about 12 years ago. However, since the early days of their marriage, the family has been engulfed in turmoil, with repeated instances of social conflict. It’s been alleged that Abdul Haque, especially when intoxicated, has subjected his wife to physical and emotional abuse on multiple occasions.

The latest incident occurred when Abdul Haque reportedly assaulted Sirina Akhtar, leaving her with severe injuries. Sources suggest that Haque beat his wife mercilessly, striking her on the head, breaking her hand, and inflicting wounds on various parts of her body.

Sirina Akhtar was discovered by locals who intervened and rushed her to Sonamura Hospital for urgent medical attention. Upon her arrival at the hospital, the authorities were alerted, prompting the involvement of the police.

The police have initiated an investigation into the matter, aiming to apprehend the perpetrator and ensure justice for the victim. Sirina Akhtar’s condition is reported to be critical, and she has been referred to GB Hospital from Sonamura for further treatment.
