Agartala, 31st March 2024 : Tripura Police achieved a significant breakthrough late Saturday night with the arrest of notorious dacoit Nazim Uddin. Hailing from Phulbari village panchayat under Kadamtala police station in Tripura’s North district, the 33-year-old has been a prolific offender for a staggering period of 10 to 12 years, engaging in a spree of dacoities across the state and even in neighboring Assam, according to police sources.
Nazimuddin, along with his accomplice, had sought temporary refuge near the residence of a local businessman in Bagbasa North Ganganagar area, with intentions to execute another dacoity. However, acting on intelligence, Tripura Police officers swiftly moved in, leading to a confrontation. During the encounter, Nazimuddin and his associate opened fire on the pursuing police team, but were ultimately forced to surrender as the police retaliated at close range, revealed North Tripura District Superintendent of Police, Bhanupada Chakraborty.
The arrest led to significant recoveries, including tools commonly associated with criminal activities such as a country-made gun, a da, and a lock cutter, along with a cache of narcotic yaba tablets. One of Nazimuddin’s associates managed to evade arrest amidst the police encounter.
Following medical treatment at Dharmanagar North District Hospital, Nazimuddin was remanded to police custody for five days. With his capture, authorities express optimism about a reduction in theft and robbery incidents plaguing the region. Moreover, the police anticipate extracting valuable information from Nazimuddin during his interrogation period.
