Agartala,  19th December 2025:    In a bid to secure a polio-free and healthy future for children, Gomati district is set to launch the Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization Drive. To inform the public and media about this crucial health initiative, a press conference was held on Friday at the office of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) in Tepania.

The event was organized by the Gomati District Health Department under the National Health Mission and the Family Welfare Association. Present at the conference were Chief Medical Officer Dr. Komol Riang and District Immunization Officer Dr. Chiranjit Noatia.

Addressing the media, Dr. Riang emphasized that the primary goal of the campaign is to ensure that no child in the district is left out of polio vaccination. Special focus has been placed on immunizing children under five years of age. To reach remote and hard-to-access areas, multiple teams comprising health workers, ASHA workers, and volunteers have been formed.

He further noted that although India has been recognized as a polio-free country since 2014, the presence of wild poliovirus in neighboring countries poses a risk of cross-border transmission. Hence, continuing regular pulse polio immunization drives remains vital.

As part of the campaign, 370 polio vaccination booths will be set up across Gomati district on Sunday, December 21. All children aged 0–5 years will be administered two drops of oral polio vaccine. This year, the target is to cover approximately 36,976 children.

According to district health officials, even children who have previously received polio vaccines must take these two drops of oral polio vaccine. The vaccine is completely safe, effective, and will be provided free of cost. Booths have been established in every Gram Panchayat and Village Council area to make access easier for parents.

For children unable to visit the booths, health workers will conduct door-to-door vaccination on December 22 and 23, 2025. The Gomati District Health Department has appealed to parents, community leaders, and the media for full cooperation to ensure that no child in the district is left out of this vital immunization program.
