International Day for Disaster Reduction held with awareness campaigns

Agartala, 13th October 2023:  The International Day for Disaster Reduction was marked with utmost dedication and vigor across the state on Friday, as a series of programs and activities were organized to raise public awareness about disaster preparedness. Districts and sub-divisions of the state participated actively in these initiatives, which aimed to impart essential knowledge on mitigating the impact of calamities and safeguarding lives and property.

The state’s Secretariat played host to the observance of International Disaster Mitigation Day, where officials from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and fire service personnel conducted disaster response drills, underscoring the importance of readiness in the face of disasters.

During the event, Puneet Agarwal, the Secretary of the Revenue Department, administered the oath of office to various levels of the secretariat, emphasizing their crucial roles in managing disaster situations. The ceremony was attended by several high-ranking officials, including Apurba Roy, Secretary of the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department, Abhishek Chandra, Special Secretary of the Planning and Coordination Department, Dr. Debashis Basu, Secretary of General Administration (Secretariat Administration), Uttam Kumar Chakma, Secretary of the Tourism Department, LT Darlong, Secretary of the Janjati Kalyan Department, Sarat Das, the State Project Officer for Disaster Management, and numerous others.

The observance of the International Day for Disaster Reduction in Tripura not only served as a platform to educate the public but also underscored the government’s commitment to disaster preparedness, response, and recovery efforts. It was a collective effort to ensure the safety and resilience of the state in the face of unforeseen adversities.
