Agartala, October 13: The annual conference and reception of legal aid functionaries organized by Tripura Legal Services Authority was held at Tripura Judicial Academy in Narsingarh here on Friday. The conference was attended by Chief Justice of Tripura High Court Aparesh Kumar Singh, Tripura High Court Judges and Tripura Legal Services Authority Executive Chairman Justice T Amarnath Goud and Chairman Justice Arindam Lodh, and other dignitaries.
The Chief Justice lauded the role of paralegal volunteers in bringing legal services to common people at the grass root level. He said that they are the frontline soldiers of the legal system and they should strengthen their relationship with the people. He said that Tripura is at the forefront of the country in providing legal services to people and honoring legal aid functionaries. He cited the example of the Special Lok Adalat held on October 8, which disposed of 29.4 percent of the cases accumulated in different courts of the state. He called it a big success.
The Executive Chairman of Tripura Legal Services Authority said that Tripura is doing a commendable job in providing legal services with the collective efforts of all. He said that various programs are being successfully implemented in the state to provide legal services to common people. He also said that Tripura Legal Services Authority is taking an important role in social awareness work related to de-addiction, prevention of human trafficking.
The Chairman of Tripura Legal Services Authority said that one of the objectives of Tripura Legal Services Authority is to provide legal services to the poor people of the society. He said that while much work has already been done towards this end, some work remains to be done. He said that paralegal volunteers have an important role to play in this regard. He also pointed out that paralegal volunteers have an important role to play in protecting the youth from drug addiction. He said that many things can be done within the confines of the law and society will benefit if everyone is made aware of this.
He also emphasized on increasing the number of women volunteers. He said that women are more sensitive and empathetic to the problems of other women and can help them in getting justice and relief.
The conference was followed by a reception where the legal aid functionaries were felicitated and appreciated for their work. The conference was aimed at motivating and encouraging the paralegal volunteers and other legal aid functionaries to continue their service to the society.
