International Disability Day 2022: Sushanta hands over Tricycles and other aids to Divyangjans

Agartala Dec 03: Commemorating the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Minister of Information and Cultural Affairs, Sushanta Chowdhury handed over special Tricycles, Wheel Chairs and other necessary accessories including hearing aids to persons with disabilities on behalf of the Social Welfare and Social Education Department.

International Day of Persons with Disabilities-2022 was celebrated at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in the capital city under the initiative of Office of the District Inspector of Social Education, Social Welfare and Social Education Department here on Saturday.Minister of Information and Cultural Affairs, Sushanta Chwdhury inaugurated the program in presence of West Tripura district president Antara Deb Sarkar and other officials of the department.

Addressing at the program Sushanta Chowdhury said, “The observance of the day aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights

“It also seeks to increase awareness of gains to be derived from the integration of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life”, he added.

Chowdhury further added, “The state government is working to render best services to the Divyangjan. Providing them with various aids like Tricycles, Wheel Chair, social pension and many more is to see that they feel equally treated like commoners”.

Praising the arts and articrafts made by the disabled persons, Chowdhury further said, “Everyone of us is gifted with some or other talent and the Divyangjans are not different”.He urged upon all to treat the disabled persons with equal respect adding that they are an inevitable part of the society.The International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) is observed on December 3 every year with an aim to spread awareness about the rights and well-being of people with disabilities. It also aims to raise awareness about the political, social and economic discrepancies faced by persons with disabilities.

The theme of International Day of Persons with Disabilities, this year, is “Transformative solutions for inclusive development: the role of innovation in fuelling an accessible and equitable world “.
