Investigation into DGP’s Death Will Follow Legal Procedure: CM; pays last tribute

Agartala, 21^st  July 2026:  Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha paid his final respects to late Tripura DGP Anurag Dhankar and expressed deep sorrow over his untimely demise. Remembering the senior IPS officer as a dedicated, professional, and committed police official, the Chief Minister said that his contribution towards maintaining law and order and ensuring public safety would always remain in the memory of the people of the state.

Speaking to the media at the Secretariat premises, Dr. Saha, who also holds the Home portfolio, said that DGP Dhankar, a 1994-batch IPS officer, had earned his trust and confidence after taking charge as the Director General of Police.

“During his tenure, the law and order situation in the state remained stable. I had complete faith in his leadership and ability. His professional commitment and achievements reflected his dedication towards service,” the Chief Minister said.

Recalling his last interaction with the DGP during the Tripura Police passing-out parade on July 18, Dr. Saha said they had a positive conversation and that he never expected such a tragic incident to occur soon after.

The Chief Minister said he was informed about the incident while attending a meeting and immediately rushed to the Police Headquarters along with the Chief Secretary and senior officials. He added that the investigation process was carried out by the concerned authorities and all necessary steps would be taken as per law.

Describing DGP Dhankar as an exceptional officer and a courteous person, Dr. Saha said his absence has created a deep void that will be difficult to fill. He praised the late DGP’s role in strengthening the state’s law and order system and said officers and employees across the administration are deeply saddened by the loss.

Referring to the initial post-mortem findings, the Chief Minister said the report indicated that the DGP died due to hanging. He expressed solidarity with the bereaved family and prayed for their strength during this difficult time.

Members of the state cabinet, senior administrative officials, and police officers were present at the Secretariat to pay their final respects to DGP Anurag Dhankar.
