Agartala, 21st  July 2026:  The investigation into the death of Tripura Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankar is underway, with authorities awaiting the post-mortem report before determining the next course of action.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday after paying tributes to the late DGP at the State Police Headquarters, DGP-in-Charge G.S. Rao said that while no Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed yet, the police department will soon constitute an appropriate committee to oversee and closely monitor the investigation.

Describing the incident as a tragic loss, Rao said the sudden demise of the state’s police chief has left the entire police fraternity deeply saddened.

Senior police officials and personnel gathered at the Police Headquarters to pay their final respects. The mortal remains were later taken to the State Secretariat, where Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu, Cabinet ministers and other senior officials offered floral tributes.

The body was subsequently transported to Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport for its journey to the late officer’s native place in Uttar Pradesh. According to Rao, a three-member police delegation comprising IG (Law & Order) M. Ipper, Traffic SP Kanta Jangir and the Commandant of the 2nd Battalion of the Tripura State Rifles accompanied the mortal remains. The final rites are scheduled to be held in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday.

Police officials said the investigation will continue after the post-mortem findings are received, and further decisions regarding the probe will be taken accordingly.
