Agartala, 21st  July 2026:  The deplorable condition of National Highway-208, connecting Khowai and Agartala via Subal Singh, once again came under the spotlight after the vehicle of Tripura Minister Tinku Roy got stranded in thick mud at the Subal Singh hill stretch.

According to reports, the incident occurred on Wednesday when continuous muddy conditions and the badly damaged road brought traffic to a standstill for more than two hours. Hundreds of vehicles, including private cars, buses and commercial vehicles, remained stranded on both sides of the highway, causing severe inconvenience to office-goers, students, patients and daily commuters.

Eyewitnesses said the minister’s vehicle was also unable to move through the muddy stretch and got stuck. Security personnel and others accompanying the minister later managed to pull the vehicle out, following which traffic gradually resumed.

The affected section of NH-208 has remained in poor condition for a long time. During the monsoon, the Subal Singh hill area frequently witnesses severe waterlogging, muddy patches and damaged road surfaces, disrupting vehicular movement.

Local residents alleged that despite repeated appeals to the administration and the concerned authorities, no permanent solution has been implemented. The incident involving the minister’s vehicle has once again raised questions over the delay in repairing the national highway and ensuring safe and smooth transportation for the public.
