Agartala, 16th November 2025: A press conference organized by the Tripura Irregular Employees’ Forum was held on Sunday at the Agartala Press Club. Senior advocate and convenor of the organisation, Purushottam Roy Barman, addressed the media, accompanied by joint convenors Ratan Debnath, Mrinmoy Chakraborty, Kaushik Nath, and other members.

Speakers at the conference alleged that the state government’s continued silence on the legitimate demands of irregular employees is unacceptable and alarming in a democratic setup. They recalled that on July 4, the organisation had carried out a historic march to the Secretariat and submitted an eight-point charter of demands to the Chief Secretary. Although the Chief Secretary had expressed agreement with their concerns and assured action, the forum claims that four months have passed without any visible progress.

The leaders further stated that the Finance Minister’s recent remarks during the Assembly session have only deepened the disappointment among irregular employees. A reminder letter was sent to the government on September 18, setting November 15 as the deadline for a decision. With no action taken within the stipulated time, the organisation has now resolved to intensify its agitation.

According to the organisation’s officials, two phases of mass sit-in demonstrations will be held in December—on December 14 in Udaipur and on December 21 in Dharmanagar—protesting prolonged deprivation and what they term as the Chief Secretary’s failure to honor his assurance. Handbills will be distributed across the state to highlight the plight and history of neglect faced by irregular employees. If the government still fails to respond, a major protest will be organised in Agartala in January.

During the press conference, the forum also pointed out that although the Sixteenth Finance Commission’s tenure has been extended by a month until November 30, the state government has not taken the opportunity to resolve the issue by including irregular employees under committed expenditure. They alleged that this deliberate inaction reflects the government’s true stance and harms the state’s image.
