Agartala, 10th August 2025: The long-running struggle of Tripura’s irregular employees is once again heading towards the streets, with the Health Department unit of the Tripura Irregular Employees’ Forum warning of intensified protests in the coming months if their demands for regularization are not met.
Speaking at the forum’s first state conference, held today at I.M.A. House on Jagannathbari Road in the capital, eminent lawyer Purushottam Roy Barman accused the state government of dragging its feet on the issue. He reminded attendees that the demand for regularization — once granted automatically after 10 years of service — has been kept in cold storage since the current government scrapped the practice on paper.
Roy Barman recalled the forum’s recent Mahakaran Abhiyan and its meeting with the Chief Secretary, where a set of long-pending demands was submitted. While the Chief Secretary assured the matter would be “seriously examined,” the forum says no concrete steps have been taken. A fresh letter will be sent to the Chief Secretary next week seeking an update.
“If we do not get a proper response, we will return to the streets in November or December with a stronger movement,” Roy Barman warned.
For the past seven years, irregular employees across Tripura have staged multiple agitations, but their call for job security and regularization has yet to elicit a meaningful response from the government. The forum says this time, the agitation will be “uncompromising.”
