Agartala, 10th August 2025: The sixth Dukli sub-district conference of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) today turned into a strong indictment of the BJP-led government in the state, with leaders accusing it of failing women on political, social, and economic fronts.
The event was held at Bhanu Ghosh Smriti Bhavan in the state capital and inaugurated by Rama Das, vice-president of AIDWA’s All India Committee.
In her address, Das contrasted the current situation with that under the previous Left Front government, recalling that women once enjoyed political respect, social recognition, and opportunities for economic advancement. She alleged that under the BJP’s rule, Tripura’s women are now enduring an “era of oppression.”
Das also raised alarm over the increasing menace of drug addiction, blaming the BJP government for its inability to address the crisis. She urged the association to take an active role in combating the problem, calling it “the demand of the current situation.”
Accusing the BJP of “destroying people” and “playing tricks with the honor of mothers and sisters,” Das urged citizens not to remain passive. “If we want to remove this government, we cannot sit quietly at home — we must take to the streets in protest,” she said, expressing confidence that united public action could oust the BJP by 2028.
The conference, which served as a platform for voicing growing discontent against the ruling party, was attended by AIDWA all-India leader Jharna Das Baidya, state secretary Swapna Dutta, West District Committee president Kalyani Chowdhury, and other leaders.
