Agartala, 17th March 2026 :Heated exchanges marked the Zero Hour in the Tripura Legislative Assembly as Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury spotlighted two pressing issues—alleged illegal construction on government land in Boxanagar and the demand for regularisation of daily-rated workers (DRWs) and contractual employees.
Chaudhury alleged that four individuals were building structures on khaas land despite a complaint lodged with the Sonamura sub-divisional administration. He noted that Deputy Collector Biswajit Das had investigated the matter and submitted a report on February 11, 2026. “Despite the findings, construction continues. Will the government act to demolish these structures, especially with road widening at Boxanagar bazar on the horizon?” he asked.
Turning to labour concerns, the opposition leader cited a recent court verdict in favour of eight DRWs. He pressed the government to extend the benefit to nearly 40,000 contractual employees. “Will the administration respect the court’s ruling and regularise these workers?” he questioned.
Chief Minister Manik Saha, responding briefly, assured the House of a detailed reply on March 23. “I am not fully aware of all aspects at this moment. After gathering complete information, the Assembly will be apprised accurately,” he said.
